Upcoming in YYC: August

Hello everyone! Wow, I cannot believe that a month has already past and that we are now on the second month of the upcoming in YYC blogs. Feels like last week I wrote the one for July, and speaking of July: did anyone partake in the events? If you did make sure to comment and let us know which one(s) you went to, and how you liked it!

July was a busy month with travels to see family, and celebrating engagements/getting ready for a wedding, but thankfully August is a bit more chilled with exciting days (my birthday!!) and getting ready for school. ANYWAYS! There is a lot of things going on in and around Calgary so let's get into it!

Tour De Bowness: For the 18th year during August 3-5, there is the annual bike race that starts in Cochrane and finishes up on the Monday in Bowness. So grab a friend, grab an iced coffee, and head on down to cheer on everyone!

Chasing Summer Music Festival: August 3-4 on the ground of the Max Bell Centre, admission is for 18 years or older and has the headliner 'The Chainsmokers'. Go on and chase the summer in style!

Spartan Race 5km & 13km: August 10 & 11, there is open heats for all fitness levels as well as heats for elites and competitive runners. This is a fun obstacle course for everyone and anyone, so build a team or come alone, bring your family (there are kids races as well!), or just hang out at the festival area with others as they cheer everyone on.

Calgary Fringe Festival: August 2-10 is the annual theatre festival in Calgary that trust me, you DON'T want to miss! I've never been to the Calgary one, but I attended the Edinburgh Fringe Festival a couple years ago and it was amazing! Many comedians in the streets telling jokes, entertainers doing tricks, and mini plays that will spark your imagination, this takes place downtown and near the stampede grounds.

Shakespeare by the Bow: This year's play is A Midsummer Night's Dream going on every day from June 27th and ending August 18th so there's only a couple more weeks left to enjoy it! It is in Prince's Island Park right next to the walking bridge that goes over Memorial Drive.

Taste of Calgary: Now doesn't that sound delicious? You can taste all of the wonderful food in Eau Claire's Food Festival from August 8-11, and man oh man I cannot wait! An outdoor festival with delicious foods and drinks from an array of different countries and cultures.

Marda Gras Street Festival: August 11th you can go and enjoy a free street festival open in the Marda Loop business district on 33rd Avenue SW. The event hosts over 250 vendors, 4 live entertainment stages, a kids area and most recently added is a Classic Car show! A day of fun for the whole family.

Global Fest: It is here again and we are excited! Get ready to learn about different cultures from August 15th to the 24th in Elliston park, each night ending with a show of beautiful fireworks!

Country Thunder Alberta: At Prairie Winds Park in NE Calgary community during August 16-19th, get ready to hear all of your country listening pleasure for 3 full days!

Night at the Midway: Want to enjoy the fun of Heritage park kid free for an evening? On August 9th from 7-10 pm you can enjoy food, games, and a cash bar without worrying about where your kids want to go! An evening just for you :)

There are still TONS of events in Calgary so make sure to go on Calgary's site to see when the other events are! There are a few Alberta food tours that take place in and around Calgary, as well as The Stampeder's games that will be exciting to check out if you've never been to a football game before! Or even if you have been, they are always a blast to attend!

This weekend is August long so make the most of it! Have a great long weekend everyone, and I'll see you back here next week! As well as make sure to watch for the end of August for the September edition of Upcoming in YYC.

Xoxo,

Callista
